What's your favorite side?
Gobble, gobble!
I love November. Possibly because it’s my birthday month. Yeah, me! Or maybe it’s because Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season!
In any case, since I especially enjoy the story of how America was settled, I decided to share two books you might enjoy for yourself, your family, or as gifts.
Mayflower — Voyage, Community, War by Nathaniel Philbrick gives us the story of the Pilgrims and tells a gripping narrative of the conflict between the English colonists and the natives. By far, it’s one of the best depictions of U.S immigration history. I highly recommend this 2007 Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in History.
For the younger crowd, here’s the New York Times Bestseller: How to Catch a Turkey. When a turkey is on the loose in a school, author Adam Wallace along with illustrator Andy Elkerton, help catch it! Just one of the greatest hits in the How to Catch series!!
Speaking of Thanksgiving …
Some people love turkey, some could take it or leave it. But the sides! That’s where we all have an opinion. Which one of these is a must-have on your Thanksgiving dinner table next week?
Something else? Let me know in the Comments!
Quirky Me
As you’d expect, I, too, have a favorite Thanksgiving dinner side. But I won’t tell you what it is!
Instead, I’ll tell you what you won’t find me eating! Gravy!!! As a young child, my foster mother seemed to put gravy on everything! Or at least my memory tells me so. As a result, I rarely put gravy on my food. I know I’m missing something. But hey … that’s what makes me be me!
Speaking of holidays …
Looking for the perfect gift for that reader on your list or a treat for yourself? Now’s the time to get the cozy mystery you’ll want to curl up with this holiday season and/or put under someone’s tree!
Cats, cookies, and a shocking murder put a twist on the holidays in Chatham Crossing. Join Venus Bixby in Switched at Death as she follows the crumbs to finger the killer in this heartwarming, witty whodunit.
Until next time … be kind, stay healthy, gobble, gobble! 🦃
Best,
Valerie

Hi Gabi! Oh, pies!! Pumpkin and apple are a must! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I'm a Brit, so although I celebrate Thanksgiving, I don't have the favorite dishes from childhood that Americans do. And I'm a vegatarian. But I do enjoy vegetarian sausages and roast potatoes (traditional with turkey in England) and the pies! Now you're talking. Pumpkin, berry, cranberry curd (NYT recipe) and good old apple...
